Our advanced course is an in-depth experience of over 3 hours for 2 participants. The participants will have hands on experience of sharing the driving and firing of a passenger or freight train for a distance of approximately 30 miles. Participants will be given membership of the railway, provided with drinks and a meal and be awarded a certificate to commemorate their participation. Participants should ideally have completed our starter course.

A shortened version (less distance) of our advanced course (approximately 2.5 hours) for 1 person is available where an individual wants to have the experience of driving a train on his or her own.
The price of this shortened advanced course is £450* per person.
* Prices shown are for NVR resident steam engines. The fleet includes our BR Class 5 4-6-0 73050 City of Peterborough. From time to time guest locomotives visit the NVR. These are sometimes available for driving experience days but a supplement may be payable to drive them.
